Amazing show. First time I’ve attended VMworld and it definitely won’t be the last. Attended a few breakout sessions which hypes me up in implementing what I’ve learned here at my job. Time to move from the windows install, over to the the appliance. 🙂
There are times when you’ll need to do a manual update on your hosts. Depending on how your environment is setup, you may need to plan out the best steps to do a ESXi version upgrade on your hosts. For me, atm since I don’t have vCenter stood up, I’m not currently running VUM just yet so I’ll have to manually [...]
Pretty kewl stuff.
Totally not supported by VMware but works like a charm. Of course there are a few steps to get your hosts to recognize the device and who doesn’t have a spare USB drive laying around, amirite? Disable USB Arbitrator Service First thing we want to do is disable the USB Arbitrator Service. This service is what allows your ESXi host [...]
Went to a VMUG meeting today to mingle a bit with the VMware community here in town. The meeting was sponsored by this backup company named Unitrends which offers a pretty cool backup solution. The meeting topic was more on Ransomware because of the WannaCry fiasco and how it can be prevented. Great guys with some cool ideas on [...]
Ah good ol’ storage. There never seems to be enough of it especially for data hoarders like myself. For my home lab I’m going to need some shared storage amongst all my ESXi hosts. Since I don’t have a dedicated fibre channel SAN, I can re-purpose my Western Digital NAS which supports iSCSI as my SAN for shared storage [...]
Now that we’ve created our install media in Part 1, we can move on to installing ESXi on the 8GB USB boot drive. Plug In Your Drives Make sure you plug in both drives into your NUC. I’ll plug in the ESXi installer into the front USB port and the static boot drive will remain plugged in on the back. Booting Up The NUC After [...]
Ok so first things first! Since I have all the hardware components I can start to put together this lab. I’ve already installed the memory into the NUCs and now I need the installation media to install and configure the ESXi 6.5 boot drive. Things I’ll need I’ll need a few prerequisites before I can create our install [...]
